CALGARY, AB: The Western Canadian Wheat Growers would like to congratulate Premier Elect Jason Kenney and the United Conservative Party on their strong win in Alberta.
“Wheat Growers support the values of lower taxes, smaller government and the elimination of the ill-formed carbon tax. We look forward to working with the new provincial government to ensure that we can be as productive as possible,” said Gunter Jochum, President.
The imposition of the carbon tax directly impacts farmers bottom line and cannot be passed on to the end user. The agriculture community has made strong strides in environmental protection including no-till seeding, lower levels of fertilizer inputs, GPS driven equipment and better water management.
“We wish the incoming provincial government all the best during their mandate and ask that that they consult with the Wheat Growers and other agriculture advocacy organizations to ensure strong positive agriculture policy,” closed Stephen Vandervalk, VP Alberta.
