Calgary, AB — (March 7, 2018): The Western Canadian Wheat Growers Association supports the letter from the Hon. Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport and the Hon. Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food calling for immediate grain transportation solutions. In addition, we acknowledge the decisive steps taken by the CN Rail Board for acknowledging the current problems and taking serious steps to seek solutions to the rail transportation crisis that all grain farmers across Western Canada are facing.
“It is time to end the blame game and come forward with a transparent plan of what the rail companies can actually haul and when. Producers are tired, weary and frustrated beyond comprehension of the same old rhetoric that affects more than just cash flow. Farming technology has steadily improved over the years; we need the grain transportation system to also move to the 21st Century, regardless of adverse conditions,” stated Matthew Sawyer, Director.
The Wheat Growers support immediate action and would be prepared to be a part of a solution finding process. Grain farmers know and understand their industry better than outsiders and have solutions in mind.
“Wheat Grower members support transparent and real solutions that will ensure that grain moves immediately and ensures that this problem is resolved going forward. Building Canada’s economy depends upon this solution,” closed Levi Wood, President.
