The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) gives access to ten countries around the Pacific Rim, many of which are prime targets for wheat exports. With a combined trading block representing 495 million people and a combined GDP of $13.5 trillion, representing 13% of global GDP, there is enormous potential growth for Canadian exports, including wheat and other agricultural products.
The Issues
As one of the first six countries to sign the CPTPP, virtually all of the exports to the member countries are tariff free.
Canadian growers and the transportation system need to ensure that we can quickly establish inroads into all of the wheat markets.
Our Position
The Wheat Growers Association supports the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership.
