Fiona Jochum
Fiona is from St. Francois Xavier, where she farms with her family. Her involvement on the farm and in the community gave Fiona an appreciation for rural Manitoba and sparked her interest in the agriculture industry. She graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Diploma of Agriculture and a Bachelor’s Degree of AgriBusiness.
To start her career, Fiona explored work in crop protection research, sales, ag policy, and traveled to Australia to get work experience and learn about agriculture globally. After a few years she decided to return to the family grain farm. She has given herself the title “Public Relations Manager” because of her interest in advocating for agriculture. Each year she prepares the farm to participate in Open Farm Day and is always seeking other opportunities to connect with consumers. In the winter months Fiona also works part-time promoting the International Rural Exchange Program, encouraging young people to travel and learn about agriculture around the world.
Fiona always finds time for her second passion: music. She is an accomplished pianist, enjoys jam sessions on her fiddle with her mom accompanying on the piano, and occasionally brings out the saxophone too. She is currently a member of Prairie Voices, an award-winning choir from Winnipeg; this is a choir that turns the stuffy choir stereotype on its head!
