Wheat Growers announce 47th annual convention agenda
Tours and speakers in Saskatoon to highlight exciting western agriculture value chain
SASKATOON, SK—(February 3, 2017): Today, the Western Canadian Wheat Growers Association announced their 47th annual convention agenda, to be held in Saskatoon from February 28-March 2.
“There are so many exciting things happening in agriculture in Saskatchewan and western Canada today,” said Levi Wood, President of the Wheat Growers and grain farmer at Pense, Saskatchewan. “We thought it would be of good value and interest for our growers and industry colleagues to hear from the full ag value chain and see what’s happening first-hand, and there’s no better place to do that right now than in Saskatoon.”
The Wheat Growers convention will hear insightful speakers on grain marketing, plant and soil science, key public policy issues in farming, grain handling and transportation, and transactions in the agriculture industry, among several others.
“From the Saskatchewan Minister of Agriculture, to the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Global Food Security at the University of Saskatchewan, to the President and CEO of Viterra, to a preeminent Mars scientists and author,” said Wood. “Those attending will learn everything from better grain marketing right through to rocket science!”
Dr. Robert Zubrin—a nuclear and astronautical engineer, and best-selling author of the critically acclaimed The Case for Mars—will speak with convention delegates on today’s revolutionary agriculturalists vs anti-development activists, a critical topic for modern farming.
“A big hit at all of our conventions are some of the tours we take, so in holding our event in Saskatoon, we wanted to keep with the theme of farming and the ag value chain,” said Wood. “Touring the largest agricultural equipment manufacturing plant in Canada fits that bill, as does seeing our crops in value-added production, so I think touring an iconic brewery and new craft distillery will be exciting for growers and our industry colleagues.”
