Matt and his wife Tara currently farm northwest of Acme, Alberta, growing wheat, barley, canola, and raising commercial angus cattle. The family farm was homesteaded by his great grandfather in 1903.
Matt began his full-time farming career after graduating from Olds College in 1993, where he majored in Agricultural Production. The first ten years after graduating were spent building and expanding his own farm, as well as building a strong cattle herd. In 2003, he became a delegate for the Alberta Barley Commission. That same year he became a secretary for the Agricore Rockyview/Beiseker District Advisory Group. In 2006, he attended the Combine to Customer course at CIGI. In the latter part of 2006, he became a member delegate for Agricore United.
Matt is very passionate about agriculture, and consistently strives to achieve excellence through introducing new technologies and environmental awareness on his farm. He is equally passionate about having marketing choice for wheat and barley, and the development of a biofuels industry in western Canada.
Matt and Tara have three young children.
